Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ArchFrontline, operated by the Authoritarianism Research Center (A. Goštauto 8-153C, 01108 Vilnius, Lithuania), collects, uses, and safeguards personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Lithuanian data protection law.

Data controller

The data controller is the Authoritarianism Research Center, registered in Vilnius, Lithuania. For any privacy-related question or request, write to editor@archfrontline.com.

What data we collect

We collect personal data only when you actively provide it:

  • Newsletter subscription — your email address and the language preference you select.
  • User account (if created) — email address, display name, and the sections or topics you choose to follow.
  • Editorial correspondence — any information you include when writing to us (email address, name, message content).
  • Usage analytics — aggregated, anonymised data about how the site is used (page views, reading time, referrer, device type). We do not track individuals.

We process personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — for newsletter subscription and optional analytics beyond strictly necessary cookies.
  • Contract — to provide the account features you request.
  • Legitimate interest — to secure the site, respond to inquiries, and improve editorial content based on aggregated usage patterns.

Cookies and tracking

ArchFrontline uses only cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to function (session, language preference, dark/light mode) and, subject to your consent, aggregated analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or social-media pixels. You can manage your cookie choices at any time via the cookie settings.

Sharing with third parties

We do not sell personal data. We do not share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We use a limited set of service providers — hosting, email delivery, and privacy-preserving analytics — that process data on our behalf under contract and within the European Economic Area, or under Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter — retained until you unsubscribe.
  • User account — retained until you delete the account.
  • Editorial correspondence — retained for as long as necessary to answer your inquiry and, where relevant, to fulfil legal obligations.
  • Aggregated analytics — retained for up to 24 months.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, write to editor@archfrontline.com. We will respond within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Lithuanian State Data Protection Inspectorate (Valstybinė duomenų apsaugos inspekcija) at vdai.lrv.lt.

Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Access to personal data is limited to editorial staff who need it for their role.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the site and communicated to newsletter subscribers.
